Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET)
Understand Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET), uterine lining preparation, embryo thawing and the transfer procedure at Rama Sofat Hospital, Ludhiana.
Understanding Frozen Embryo Transfer
Frozen Embryo Transfer (FET) is an IVF procedure in which a previously frozen embryo is thawed and carefully transferred into the uterus during a later menstrual cycle.
Instead of transferring the embryo in the same cycle in which it was created, the embryo is vitrified (rapidly frozen), stored, and transferred when the uterus is appropriately prepared.
How is FET done?
- The uterine lining is prepared either naturally or with prescribed hormonal medication.
- Ultrasound is used to monitor the thickness and development of the endometrium.
- A suitable frozen embryo is thawed by the embryology team.
- The embryo is gently transferred into the uterus using a thin catheter under ultrasound guidance.
- Progesterone or other medications may be prescribed after transfer, depending on the treatment protocol.
- A beta-hCG blood test is performed on the recommended date to check for pregnancy.
FET is generally a simple, minimally invasive procedure and usually does not require anaesthesia.
At Rama Sofat Hospital & Ruchi Test Tube Baby Centre, Ludhiana, FET is planned according to each patient’s uterine lining, embryo development and individual fertility treatment needs.
